STAGER, Gaylia Evans (Gay)
Passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at St. Luke’s Place, in her 90th year. Born in Springside, Saskatchewan on July 20, 1929, Gay was the beloved, cherished wife and best friend of the late Harold (Harry) Stager for 64 years. Daughter of the late Rev. Clifford and Neta Miller. Dearest Mother of Jane Sheppard, Pat Stager (Jim) and Bob Stager (Marian). Loving Grandmother to Jenny (Jamie), Andrew (Amy), Heather (Kerry), Nicole, Aaron (Kim), Jocelyn (Dana) and Lee-Anne. Proud Great Grandmother to Caleb, Alexis, Nathan, Aidan, Owen, Juliana, Jake, Charlie and Henry. Sister of Cliff Miller (Wendy). Predeceased by Son-in-law Brian Sheppard and Brother Don Miller. Survived by Sister-in-law Peggy Miller. Gay graduated from Preston High School in 1947 and from Hamilton Normal School in 1948. She taught Grade 1 in Brantford before returning to Hespeler where she spent the rest of her life with her husband Harry, raising their family and working in the Stager Real Estate firm. Volunteer work played a big part in Gay’s life. She worked for 20 years with the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a past president of that organization. She served for 6 years on the Hospital Board of Directors. The Church and her faith meant a great deal to her and she worked on many committees and sang in the choir for over 30 years. Gay’s greatest love and devotion was to her family. She was so proud of them all and they are from Florida, Ohio, Kentucky, Ottawa, Cambridge, Toronto and Vancouver. Cremation has taken place with interment in New Hope Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd., Cambridge, on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Cambridge or Saint Luke’s Place Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
